Wisdom teeth are nothing but the third molars. They normally grow between the age of 17 to 25 years in adults. An adult can get 4 wisdom teeth. The growth of this teeth occurs when you reach adulthood but the only thing is that majority of people have these teeth growing on sideways or are impacted most of the times. This can be a serious issue because as it grows, it gets inside the jawbone or sometimes pushes into the nearing tooth. This can be painful and could cause serious problems eventually if it is not treated. The only remedy to this would be extraction by a dentist.
It is important to extract the wisdom teeth as soon as possible because if you leave it longer, it becomes difficult to get them extracted. There is a risk of more severe complications if the extraction is done at old age as compared with extraction done in teenage. Impacted teeth lead to serious dental health issues such as abscess, infection or growth of a cyst and they could also damage the nearby teeth. A surgical operation is involved in the teeth extraction of such teeth. The dentist will make a cut through the tissue that covers impacted teeth to remove them. There are cases when it becomes necessary to remove some parts of the bone. Extraction of wisdom teeth involves a minor surgery so it is better to make necessary preparations. You need to have sufficient time to rest and heal after the procedure. You will also need to eat soft foods as it will be difficult to chew or open your mouth after the procedure. There will be some pain after the surgery so it is better to take prescriptions for pain relievers.
